Hi! I’m Kris Yoder.
The story begins in the summer of 1991. Mama K was 12 years old, raised on a dairy farm in Virginia, when her family started a home bakery. Taking their home baked goods to the Lynchburg Farmers Market week after week never got old. The first layer of foundation was laid for Mama K’s Bun’s.
In 1999, she married her husband, Terry Yoder, moved to Pennsylvania and started their family. Mama K worked several home-based businesses to provide extra income for their family so she could stay home with their children, Erika, TJ and Erin.
In 2013, Erika needed to raise money for a mission trip with her church youth group. Mama K had a great idea to have a bake sale fundraiser for Erika’s trip. They were surprised by how many people generously supported Erika and continued asking for more baked goods. This support ultimately became the beginning of Mama K’s Buns.
After much prayer and wise counsel, Mama K decided to create an official business by getting her LLC and having her home-kitchen licensed and inspected in 2019.
Commercial baking equipment was added to her home so she could keep up with orders as word got out around the community about the new home bakery in town: Mama K’s Buns.
It only took two years to outgrow her home-kitchen. Launching an amazing fundraiser program really was the catalyst to push Mama K to begin praying about moving the home bakery into a commercial space. The space in her home just wasn’t sufficient.
The hunt began and Mama K was so excited to find an amazing brick and mortar commercial space in downtown Greencastle, right off the square. Contracts, permits, building plans and renovations became the next part of Mama K’s story.
We opened the official Mama K’s Buns location in August of 2022! We are so thankful for our loyal customers and look forward to more opportunities to serve our community ‘home-made goodness, fresh from the oven’!
